With the car we drive to Meiringen to the parking lot of the gondola lift. The gondola lift is part of the mountain railways via Reuti, Bidmi, Mägisalp and Alpen Tower Planplatte. The length of this trip is 13 km one way. With the navigation device you drive to "Steinmühlestrasse, Meiringen".

The castle ruins Rest can be reached quickly after a 400 meter hike. On the way there you can see protective walls against water floods that used to afflict Meiringen. The castle tower consists only of stone blocks on the outside, inside the floors were divided from wood. Today there are gratings instead. Since you can see through all floors so completely, this attraction is not suitable for everyone. You should be free from giddiness! The official homepage for this attraction can be found here. There is another homepage here.

Another big highlight, particularly suitable for bad weather, is the Oberhasli Nature Museum in Meiringen, 300 meters from the gondola car park. It contains a wonderful collection of animals in the Oberhasli area. It is a wonderful gem built by an ornithologist and maintained by a support association on a donation basis. The link on their homepage is here. The house is at Lenggasse 19 in Meiringen.
